The ribosome comprises the small ribosomal subunit (SSU), which binds messenger RNAs (mRNAs) and translates the encoded message by selecting corresponding aminoacyl-transfer RNA (tRNA) molecules, and the large subunit (LSU), which harbors the ribosomal catalytic site known as the peptidyl transferase center (PTC). As an integral part of the LSU, RPL13 is likely essential for its formation and the maturation of ribosomal RNAs. |
