| Introduction |
RPN2 gene encodes a type I integral ribophorin membrane protein that is uniquely found in the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The protein is a component of an N-oligosaccharyl transferase complex responsible for attaching high mannose oligosaccharides to asparagine residues within the Asn-X-Ser/Thr consensus motif of nascent polypeptide chains. Importantly, RPN2 has been identified as a prognostic marker in human cancer and may represent a potential target of significant clinical importance. |
